Now that market is starting to pick up with the warmer weather we are going to establish 2 pre-paid pick up lines. One line will be at the back of the booth. If you just want to pick up the food that you ordered on-line and you don’t wish to do additional market shopping we will make it quick and easy for you. Just let market staff know that your doing a quick back of the booth pick up, should they ask, and assure them you will then be on your way. Also, you can pick up at the back of the booth if your done with your shopping and we are your last stop. The other pick up line will be at the front of the booth where we normally hang our Express Line sign. There will be 1 more person in the booth to help expedite on-line orders while we help other shoppers who have not pre-paid. If you have any requests of us regarding your on-line meal feel free to email us. I will respond and let you know if your request will be fulfilled. Starting July 4th we will be able to offer hot food. I’m thinking fritters. They will need to be packaged to go since eating on site will still be prohibited. The market is entertaining on site eating by July 18th. I will update with current information as I receive it. In the meantime if you want to guarantee a meal and a particular dessert by the time you make it down to market, pre-order. It’s easy. Go to macromamas.com, click market store, click shop and choose what you would like. That way there is no need to rush on a lazy saturday morning. Only thing you’ll need to keep in mind in the market closes at 1pm. Hours will extend till 3 starting in July. I will update. It’s a fluid time, stay afloat!!

On the eve of the solstice we step into the driest time of the year, summer We are certainly feeling the heat of the sun and praying for those evening showers that give our gardens that healthful soaking they crave. Roses are in full bloom and it’s floral essence will be dotting in and out of this weeks menu. Cooking will become a little lighter, produce will travel 1 mile down the road instead of across country from more temperate climates. As summer ripens into its fullness the rising potential energy of spring buds explode into realized maturity. Summer is symbolized by the radiant energy of fire. Bitter flavors from dryer weather support the heart and small intestine meridians as well as the heart governor and triple warmer. The small intestine acts as the furnace of alchemical transmutation, transforms our food into blood. It is here that chlorophyll evolves into hemoglobin. The heart, the radiant sun of the body, circulates the red blood throughout the system and with it, rays of warmth and love.

We will be back in our home booth #5 this week and for the foreseeable future. We have been taking many on-line orders at our market store which can be found at macromamas.com.

The energetic qualities unfolds according to it’s own time frame whether we are the participants or not. We always measure this season with the last and sometimes within the last decade. Mother earth is always adjusting so why we? Stability is where we find our ground but what if change is where find our ground? However we approach life remember to breathe so that air circulates, expands and contracts. What was, needs a new definition or better yet perhaps the lines remain unclear giving us the freedom to move forth without restrictions. Lofty thought within uncertain times but let’s remember we leave a small indelible footprint with the time we have here. Extending out to each other in love and forgiveness is paramount to our own wellbeing. Let’s enjoy the spring flavors coming forth.

Temperatures are thankfully warming up this week. We are busy trading plants and anticipating endless gardening time. The farmers market is fully stocked with a variety of garden starts from a variety of vendors. Here in the kitchen we are inoculating rice with koji spores and awaiting our first delivery of local organic soybeans so that we can start the miso crocks. We have more ideas than the hours in the day so we will start slowly whittling away and see how we re-fashion ourselves in this time of fluidity. Pre-orders will guarantee you will receive what you want when you come to the booth. Go to macromamas.com, click market store, click shop. We do bring extra food down for those who miss our friday morning ordering deadline, but we can’t guarantee anything will be left when you show up. Saturdays meal will be provided by the following farms;

It was really nice to see many of your faces again adorned with with many different styles of masks. It is slowly becoming more of a fashion statement I believe. We have definitely ditched the home made masks for something more durable and colorful. Lately I have purchased masks from Carolina Perez’s etsy account. A local Ithaca Market vendor. She has many colors and designs to choose from. I can wear her masks all day and feel comfortable while I cook and served food. Our masks are popped in the washer and dryer after each shift and still seem resilient enough for another day. The produce this week comes from many of our favorite farms, Plowbreak, Remembrance, Wellspring and Buried Treasures. As always we try to source the freshest ingredients including hiking into the hillside to harvest ramps and glean fresh herbs from our gardens. This might be the last week for harvesting ramps. Some have been pickled, some buried in miso and some dehydrated for a future meal. One last adjustment to this week’s meal. We have taken the salad out of the meal and have instead offered more cooked veggies. We will serve the salad on the side as a salad bowl offering both small and large sizes. As some of you have noticed we also offer additional desserts not offered at our online store. Partially impromptu baking, partially due to the store only being able to offer so many items. We will offer both GF and non-GF options every week. We will maintain a gluten free meal. Our menu for this saturday is listed below. Please order food online so that we will have it ready for you when you come to market. Go to macromamas.com, click market store, click shop. (Shop can be found at the top of the page)

Saturday looks to have a bit of a spring chill in the air. Just enough to remind us that we still need to nurture the warmth in our bodies with some hearty flavors while adding a little more spring lift to the menu. Plan to see us at market in booth #40, just across the aisle from our home booth #5. While we are cooking for the ebbs and flow of the spring tide it reminds me that is a time to be flexible. In spirit and in our cooking. In whatever new situation arises. Cleansing the liver and gallbladder by reducing oils in your food, and bringing in some of the spring flavors such a ramps, nettles, spring onions, mustard greens, ginger and wheat will help to ease the liver of the excess of the winter diet. Lighter cooking while adding slightly sour and pungent flavor to the meal will help to encourage that flexibility we all need right now. We will be incorporating all these elements into this weeks meal. We are also encouraging customers to order on line so that they can do a quick pick up at market. This request is meant to help keep everyone moving through the market and back to their homes as quickly and safely as possible. We of course will bring extra food down for those who are a little more impulsive in nature. It’s easy to order. Go to macromamas.com. Click Market Store. Click Shop. This will bring you to this weeks menu and the variety of options made available.

Until then….

We're back!
