NO MACRO MAMAS this Tuesday, July 3!

Hi all, we're taking a brief break this week from Tuesday market to give our staff a chance to recharge and refresh. We hope to be back again next week!

In the meantime, you can find our Macro Meals and Peanut Lime Noodles at Greenstar locations. Noodles are delivered fresh on Monday evenings, and Macro Meals on Tuesday afternoons. We'll have our regular offerings there, as usual, this week.

Stay Cool! // Menu for Saturday, June 30, 2018

As June turns to July, we celebrate the last of the strawberries and anticipate the first sour cherries; we say farewell to asparagus and hellooooo to summer squash and cucumbers! These past few cool, mild days have made for tender, flavorful greens and lush growth. With forecasts in the 90s for the next week, however, summer is in full swing. That means pond swimming, lakeside picnics, fireworks, and hot nights. It also means I might have a shot at growing some decent watermelons this year!

Energetically, it's hard work for us to cool down our bodies on these very hot days. To help you with that, we've included cooling summer flavors in this week's menu. The grilled cauliflower brings a little bitterness -- nourishing for the heart and small intestine, stimulating to digestion especially in the heat when we tend to feel sluggish and stagnant. Tarragon mellows the bitterness and brings a cooling aspect to this dish. A cucumber salad, with energizing umeboshi vinegar, provides cool freshness that can help us get through the day. These cucumbers came straight from Plowbreak Farm in Burdett; they truly couldn't get any fresher! 

We give thanks this week to our farmers and providers: Remembrance, Plowbreak, Wild Apple, Muddy Fingers, and Of The Forest Farm. We are fortunate to live among such plentitude and bounty.

Celebrating bountiful summer produce from our friends, neighbors, and invaluable farmers, this week we feature fresh kale from Early Morning Farm; adorable baby summer squash and basil from Plowbreak Farm; Hakurei turnips, garlic scapes, and delicate mustard greens from Of The Forest Farm (they're new and quite lovely! Find them at the market selling vegetables and forest products on Sundays). Not to mention luscious strawberries from Remembrance Farm. June is so spectacular out there this year. I hope you're reveling in it -- we are!

Hello friends!

After a few weeks' hiatus, we will be back at the Tuesday Market tomorrow in Dewitt Park with a delicious meal, cold beverages, and tasty desserts. The city of Ithaca is improving the sidewalks around the park, so there will be some light construction going on for the next few weeks -- we might have to move around to accommodate their work.

Tomorrow, though, we'll be in our usual spot across from the Dewitt Mall, and we hope to see you there!

Hi all! 

This time of year is full to bursting with marvelous things to do. Pond swimming, garden planting, forest walking, and enjoying the much-needed, mighty thunderstorms that sweep across the Land Between the Lakes. Everywhere I look, I see the beauty of summer unfolding. The first lonely fireflies. Fat bullfrog tadpoles in Foster Pond. New leaves on old trees. Dahlia tubers poking up from the soil. Pale yellow irises opening in the morning dew. Yeah, yeah, everybody's talking about gratitude these days...but that doesn't make it any less sweet and tender. We are truly privileged to live surrounded by such beauty. Let us protect it always, and find ways to share it, always. 

This week, for the first time ever, you can find Macro Mamas in TWO PLACES AT ONCE.

We'll be down at Steamboat Landing for the Ithaca Farmers Market, as always, with our full menu, including corn fritters, a fabulous array of desserts, and our ever-changing, always-delicious Platter of the Day.

You can ALSO find some of our most popular items at Ithaca Festival, where the kind folks at Healthy Food For All will be slinging Peanut Lime Noodles, Remembrance Farm salad greens, and some small treats. We'd love to see you at the Farmers Market -- and you can't get corn fritters anywhere else! -- but we also hope you'll swing over to Healthy Food For All to support their wonderful mission of making fresh, local, healthy food available and accessible to all people regardless of socio-economic class. We are fortunate to have such an organization in our community, doing work that helps to mitigate inequality and bring food justice to the Finger Lakes region. 

Thanks as always for allowing us to cook for you! And thanks to our farmers, including Buried Treasures Farm who contributed the sweetest, most succulent, delicious Hakurei turnips to our menu this week. Like little white globes of pure earth-candy, these turnips are delightful when roasted and graced with a little lemon zest.
